Polls Open on Saturday February 16th for the 2008 Voorhees
Fire Fiscal Year Budget

On Saturday February 16th, the Voorhees Fire District will be holding elections to
decide the fate of the 2008 Fiscal year budget. The proposed 6.3 million dollar budget
is an increase from the previous year and has been attributed to various dynamic
factors. The proposed hike is a direct result of the rising cost of health insurance,
employee salaries, pension plans, and the anticipated increase in fuel expenditures.
But, the Voorhees Tax Payers will be happy to know that their Voorhees Volunteer
Firefighters save the town millions of dollars in man-power hours each year. The
volunteers provide 110 hours of fire suppression per week from Monday to Friday from
5pm to 6am in addition to weekends and all holidays. From the 1,236 fire calls that were
dispatched in 2007, close to 800 of those calls were dispatched during the volunteer’s
shift. These statistics alone represent our sheer dedication to the community. The
Volunteers are proud to have served their community for the past three decades and
look forward to continuing to serve the public in the future. The spirit of “Neighbors
Helping Neighbors” is alive and well in Voorhees and it is clearly emulated within the
Voorhees Fire District. This being the case, the Voorhees Volunteers ask that you
come out and play an active roll in your community. We encourage the citizens of
Voorhees to stop by the polls and vote on this year’s 2008 Fiscal Budget.
